Practical Nurse (LPN)
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Practical Nursing Program consists of 1350 hours of instruction made up of didactic (603 hours), Laboratory (72 hours), and clinical instruction (675 hours). Students will perform nursing skills in the laboratory and clinical setting under the direct supervision of a registered Nurse instructor.
HANDS-ON LEARNING INCLUDES: (Lehigh Regional Medical Center)
Advance Nursing Skills; Anatomy and Physiology; Nutrition and Infection Control
Clinical experience in Medical, Surgical, Obstetric, Pediatric, and Geriatric nursing
Clinical experience in both Acute and Long term care facilities
Pharmacology and Administration of Medications
Basic Life Support (BLS) course

PROGRAM LENGTH:
This program of study is 1350 hours
12 Months: Full -Time/Day Classes/Hours 8:30 am - 2pm/Monday - Thursday
16 Months: Part-Time/Night Classes/Hours 5:30 pm - 9:30pm/Monday - Thursday
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age (must present valid ID with date of birth).
Applicants should have a High School Diploma or GED. (Please stop by the Admnistrative Office for information on GED)
Applicants must complete the Test of Essential Academic Skills Entrance Exam (TEAS)-----Exam cost $50
Submit a completed application----A non-refundable $100 application fee is due at time of enrollment. The fee is inclusive of the total tuition cost.
Applicant must complete a level II background screening.
Applicant must submit a (2) page Professional Goal Essay.
Applicant must submit (2) reference letters
Applicant must have current standard First Aid and CPR/AED for healthcare providers (from American Heart Association) prior to acceptance or before the Core Course is completed.
Maintain School accident and liablity insurance
Completion of health screening to include: immunizations, HBV series or signed refusal, negative PPD result or chest X-Ray; to be completed and signed by Physician on Horizon Healthcare Institute form.
Submit a copy of Social Security Card
Applicants are interviewed and accepted into the program based on, their entrance and critical thinking exam results, background clearance, references, and applicant responses.
Once accepted applicants must complete all deposit requirements, execute a payment agreement (if third party funding was not obtained), attend the mandatory orientation and confirm start date.
