Is there financial assistance to pay the tuition?

Yes. We have a variety of payment plan options available.

Do I have to have a high school diploma or GED to take this class?

No, But if you do not have either then you have to take an entrance test.

Is there a minimum age requirement for this course?

Yes; you have to be at least 17 years of age to be employed in nursing homes.

Are there any pre-requisites for this course?

No.

Do I have to take a placement test?

No. You will only take an entrance test if you do not have a High School Diploma or GED

Is there a fee to take the entrance test?

Yes. The TABE Exam fee is $100.00 (non-refundable).

If I don't score a minimum of 70% on the TABE Exam will I be able to retake it?

Yes. There will be a $25.00 fee each time you take the exam.

Are there any other placement requirements for this program?

Yes. Students enrolled in this program are required to pass a background screening performed by FLDE.

Once I'm enrolled, how long with the training take?

The program is a total of 120 hours. The course may be offered full-time (5.5 hours per day), or part-time (3.5 hours per day) at the discretion of the instructor.

Once I've completed the training program will I be certified?

No. In Florida, students must successfully pass a State exam for certification. The exam is given by Pro Metric on behalf of the State and only issued once a student has completed his/her training program.

Is there a fee to take the national certification exam?

Yes. The fee is $125.00 paid directly to Pro Metric if you are a Florida resident for five (5) years. The fee is $150.00 if you are a Florida resident for less than five (5) years.

Will I have hands-on training?

At Horizon Healthcare Institute, we think itʼs very important that you practice what you are learning. Most programs offered require Horizon Healthcare Institute students to participate in an externship. An externship is training in the medical field to gain hands-on clinical experience.

Will Horizon Healthcare Institute help me to find a job after I graduate?

Horizon Healthcare Institute offers career planning assistance to its students and graduates through the Career Services Department. Throughout the Horizon Healthcare Institute program, students participate in employment preparation activities that cover job-seeking and job-keeping techniques, such as identification of individual skills, meeting employer expectations, interview preparation and presentation, and the identification of potential employment opportunities in the medical industry.

There is no State certification for this course. The Commission for Independent Education considers successful graduates of an approved Allied Health programs to be qualify to work in patientsʼ homes. http://www.fldoe.org/cie/
